Major Mask Policy Update At Walt Disney World For Fully Vaccinated Guests

We heard on February 12, that Universal Orlando Resort no longer REQUIRED guests to wear a face covering while indoors. On their official website it states that face coverings are optional for fully vaccinated guests and encourgaed for unvaccinated guests which means guests have a choice whether to wear one or not. This instantly made people question, Will Walt Disney World follow?

Well, Walt Disney World have now updated their official mask policy and it now states, “Beginning February 17, 2022, Face coverings will be optional for fully vaccinated Guests in both outdoor and indoor locations. We expect Guests who are not fully vaccinated to continue wearing face coverings in all indoor locations, including indoor attractions and theaters. Face coverings will still be required by all Guests (ages 2 and up) on enclosed Disney transportation, including Disney buses, monorails, and Disney Skyliner.”

So, fully vaccinated guests will not have to wear a face covering in indoor locations including on attractions and in queues at Walt Disney World beginning Thursday February 17, 2022. Unvaccinated guests are EXPECTED to wear a face covering in indoor locations. The word, ‘expected’ seems less direct than the previous ‘required’ wording.

As far as we know, Walt Disney World will not require proof of vaccination so they are relying on unvaccinated guests to be honest and continue to wear masks. For some, the dropping of the indoor mask mandate will certainly come as welcome news but for others who believe in masks this may put them off visiting Walt Disney World while Omicron case numbers still remain high.

Enclosed Disney transportation including buses, monorail and Disney Skyliner will now be the only place where ALL guests (age 2 and up) will be REQUIRED to wear a face covering.

Disneyland Resort has also updated their mask policy which will be effective as of Thursday February 16. Let us know your thoughts on this major policy change at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort by leaving us a comment below or on our Facebook page.
