It was announced this morning that the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster at EPCOT will open next summer. No specific date was given but it seems likely that we’ll learn exactly when guests can experience this new, thrilling attraction early next year.
In addition to the opening date, a new attraction poster was released that features the stars of the Guardians of the Galaxy film franchise, which have all been confirmed to be a part of the new attraction:
Disney has also confirmed filming for the attraction has begun with Disney Imagineers were on-set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is filming at the same time.
This attraction will be a part of an “Other World Showcase” where guests can learn about Xandar’s history and culture like they would at other World Showcase pavilions. Disney has confirmed that the pavilion that houses this attraction will be known as the “Wonders of Xandar Pavilion”, a reference to the Xandarian people whose ship will sit at the front of the pavilion.
Disney has developed a new ride system for this attraction that will feature elevated roller coaster trains that conceal track underneath, and can also move independently, spinning around 360 degrees to face screens or set pieces, similar to the roller coaster trains used by Universal’s Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts attraction. Another feature will be a backward launch – a first for a Disney coaster.
When completed, this stunning new addition to EPCOT will also be one of the longest indoor coasters in the world. You can learn more about this exciting new ride here.
