Disney has confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will open next year. No specific season or opening window was given, but it looks like this attraction will debut during the 18-month 50th anniversary of the resort as many had hoped.
The 2022 opening date fits right in line with what we’ve been hearing about this attraction, with Imagineer Zach Ridley confirming earlier this month that this attraction was entering its “final phases” of development.
This attraction will be a part of an “Other World Showcase” where guests can learn about Xandar’s history and culture like they would at other World Showcase pavilions. Disney has confirmed that the pavilion that houses this attraction will be known as the “Wonders of Xandar Pavilion”, a reference to the Xandarian people whose ship will sit at the front of the pavilion.
Disney has developed a new ride system for this attraction that will feature elevated roller coaster trains that conceal track underneath, and can also move independently, spinning around 360 degrees to face screens or set pieces, similar to the roller coaster trains used by Universal’s Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts attraction. Another feature will be a backward launch – a first for a Disney coaster.
When completed, this stunning new addition to EPCOT will also be one of the longest indoor coasters in the world. You can learn more about this exciting new ride here.
