Modified Festival of the Lion King Coming Back This Summer to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Ever since the Walt Disney World theme parks reopened last July, Disney has only offered a very select number of entertainment options, including character cavalcades and performances of For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-a-Long. However, it looks like Disney’s Animal Kingdom is preparing to bring back one of its signature shows in a new format just in time for one of the resort’s busiest travel seasons.

According to a post on the Disney Parks Blog, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be debuting a Celebration of Festival of the Lion King, which will be presented in a modified format to be mindful of health and safety best practices, sometime this summer. Disney has confirmed that there will be adjustments to the show on stage and backstage, including updates to choreography to allow for appropriate physical distancing.

In addition, seating will be limited and staggered throughout the theater (similar to the set up at For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-a-Long), and parties will all be seated individually to minimize contact with others. No specific opening date has been given for this reopening, with Disney only confirming that this reopening will happen this summer.

Right now the scaled-down version of Festival of the Lion King is the only entertainment option that has been confirmed to be returning to Walt Disney World, but we’d guess that additional entertainment options will also be returning before the end of the year as Disney has said they are committed to “bringing back even more entertainment with a responsible and thoughtful approach”. Are you excited for the return of this fan-favorite show? Which shows would you like to see brought back next?
