3 MORE Refurbishments Announced for the Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom, entrance sign

Though the Magic Kingdom has a lot of attraction refurbishments either currently happening or scheduled for the near future (including the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and more), it looks like work is about to ramp up in this park in a big way, as three more refurbishments have just been confirmed as coming to this park in the near future, including one that will be starting next week!

Magic Kingdom parking entrance

One of the most iconic signs at Walt Disney World is the parking toll area at the Magic Kingdom. And now it looks like this structure will be getting a bit of a facelift, as this structure has been confirmed to be undergoing an 8-week long transformation project starting this coming Monday, September 28, 2020. This refurbishment will bring a whole new look and color scheme to this structure that is designed to tie in to the park’s 50th anniversary next summer.

Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer’s Island

The Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island at the Magic Kingdom are both currently scheduled to close for refurbishment on October 5 and remain under refurbishment until at least early next year. We don’t have any information about what it going to happen during these closures, but we’d guess that the Rivers of America are probably going to be drained as part of this closure, which is why both of these attractions are closing at the same time.

Though all of these closures and refurbishments at the Magic Kingdom may seem like a bummer in the short term, it looks like Disney is doing their best (under challenging circumstances to say the least) to try and get the park in tip-top shape for the 50th anniversary year in 2021!
