The Big Debate – Should The Government Give Disneyland Resort The Green Light To Reopen its Gates?

It is indeed very frustrating times for Disneyland Resort, Universal Studios Hollywood, SeaWorld San Diego, Knott’s Berry Farm, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Six Flags Magic Mountain, California’s Great America and LEGOLAND California as after six months of closures due to COVID-19, they continue to wait for the green light from the government in order to be able to reopen their gates.

On a positive note, Disney’s Downtown Disney has been reopen since July 9, Knott’s Berry Farm has been operating on a limited basis turning itself into “Taste of Knott’s” food festival and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom reopened as The Marine World Experience with guests able to explore the parks zoo exhibits.

We have heard this week from Governor Gavin Newsom in response to a scathing report from Disneyland Resort President, Ken Potrock that the governement is “activevly working” on a plan and more information should be given soon. As of writing, still no specific details have been given regarding when the reopening of Disneyland Resort and the other California theme parks will be possible.

There is no doubt with the current COVID-19 situation in California that this isn’t an easy decision. It is a controversial issue with some people desperate for the theme parks to reopen so cast members and employees can get back to work and fans can get their much needed theme park fix. For others fears of safety over the spread of COVID-19 mean that they strongly think the opposite and that theme parks should remain closed.
