Though guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios have been enjoying Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway since March, the efforts to bring this attraction to Disneyland park in California hit a major snag when work ground to a halt back in March after the theme parks (and all construction) were completely shut down
However, even though we don’t have a reopening date for Disneyland Resort, it looks like as construction work on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway has picked back up, with the attraction finally going vertical, which you can see in this timelapse video posted on Instagram and the photo below. As expected, the attraction will miss its 2022 original opening target, but Disney has confirmed that they are anticipating a 2023 debut for the west coast version of this attraction.
The Disneyland version of this attraction will be put in the Toontown area of the park and though the actual ride itself will be an exact duplicate of the one now open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the west coast version will be housed in an all-new structure for this ride that will take guests inside the “El CapiTOON Theater”, where Mickey and Minnie are premiering their newest short, “Perfect Picnic.” Before guests enter the cinema, they will experience a special exhibit created by the Toontown Hysterical Society featuring costumes and props from the toon world.
