Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to Remain Closed Until Summer 2021

Though the majority of Walt Disney World resort hotels are currently operating, there are still a handful that have remained shuttered following the resort’s reopening in July. However, it looks like Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will not be opening at all in 2020, with Disney confirming today that this hotel will remain shuttered until summer 2021. In addition, Cast Members have been informed that the resort’s monorail station will be closing at the beginning of October.

Previously, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was originally scheduled to reopen August 12th, which was delayed until October 4th before this latest development.

In a statement Disney said this additional closure time will give them some extra time to complete some refurbishment work at the Resort hotel, including enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and Guest rooms. According to the Orlando Sentinel this refurbishment will include a move to a Pacific Ocean-inspired color palette as well as details, patterns and textures from Disney’s Moana.

According to Disney, The Villas and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain open during this refurbishment and will continue to serve Disney Vacation Club owners.

Work on these additional enhancements are slated to begin this fall. Guests with upcoming reservations that are impacted by these changes, will need to make arrangements at least four weeks before their arrival and modify their reservation for another Disney Resort hotel.
