The 9 BIG Updates from Walt Disney World (And Beyond) This Week (February 3-9, 2020)

This week at Walt Disney World, Disney announces that reservations are coming soon for the new Star Wars hotel, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is rumored to be getting some entertainment cuts, plus a new restaurant is now open at Disney Springs!

Outside Walt Disney World, Universal sets dates for a 2021 special event, plus LEGOLAND offers a brand new all-inclusive deal!

1. Reservations coming soon for Star Wars: Galactic Starcuiser

It was announced this week that the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience will begin taking reservations later this year for an opening in 2021! This expansion invites guests to embark on a two-night adventure aboard a glamorous starship. During this first-of-its-kind vacation experience, guests will interact with characters and become an active participant in immersive stories that unfold over the course of an unforgettable galactic journey on board the starcruiser (to be called the Halcyon).  You can read more about this experience here

2. FastPass+ reservations now available for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway 

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be opening soon at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 4, 2020, and earlier this week Disney released FastPass+ reservation times for this brand new attraction! As you might expect, this new ride is joining Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash in tier 1 at this park. 

3. March hours adjusted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney has adjusted the operating hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, adjusting opening times to 8:00 AM from March 1 – 14 2020, an hour earlier from the previously posted 9:00 AM openings.

4. CityWorks Eatery & Pour House now open

City Works Eatery & Pour House officially opened its doors this week at Disney Springs. This new location serves over 90 local and global craft brews on tap and has eight wines on draft. Menu items at this location include Ahi Tuna Tacos, Short Rib, Smoked BBQ Ribs, and the Salmon Burger, as well as desserts like Peanut Butter Snickers Pie, S’mores Dip, Root Beer Floats, and more.

5. Several cuts reportedly coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios soon

Several rumors suggest that multiple experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will could be coming to a close as soon as the end of this month including the Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away stage show and the following character experiences: 

  • Mike from Monsters Inc. (Walt Disney Presents)
  •  Bo Peep from Toy Story (Toy Story Land)
  • Frozone from the Incredibles (Pixar Place)

No specific end date has been announced for these experiences, but we’ll let you know when Disney confirms any of these closures. 

6. Two Magic Kingdom attractions to close for refurbishment this spring

The Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse will be going down for a brief refurbishment this spring beginning on April 27 and lasting through May 3, 2020. The attraction is expected to reopen to Guests on May 4, 2020.

The day after the Swiss Family Treehouse’s refurbishment, Magic Kingdom favorite Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closing for a short refurbishment from May 4 to May 21, 2020. The attraction is expected to reopen on May 22, 2020.

7.Rock the Universe sets 2021 date

Universal Orlando’s Rock the Universe, Florida’s biggest Christian music festival, has announced that it will return to Universal Studios Florida next year from Jan 29-30, 2021.

During this annual event, guests can enjoy a faith and fun-filled weekend at Universal Studios Florida with live music plus thrilling theme park attractions and entertainment.

8. Mardi Gras Tribute Store now open

Universal has opened a brand new Tribute Store for this year’s Mardi Gras event, which includes extensive props, photo ops, and of course plenty of merchandise inspired by this year’s event!    

9. LEGOLAND Florida announces new all-inclusive package

LEGOLAND Florida has announced a new all-inclusive package that includes a stay at one of the on-site LEGOLAND hotels and unlimited admission to LEGOLAND Florida theme park. Meals are included from check-in through check-out with breakfast and dinner at one of four hotel restaurants, plus lunch at any of the theme park or water park’s 10 restaurants. Families can also enjoy unlimited golf at the resort’s Florida’s Wild Side Mini Golf, valet parking, and unlimited DigiPass photos and Coca-Cola freestyle refills.
