Disney’s Hollywood Studios Changes FastPass+ Tiers in a MAJOR way

Earlier this week Disney’s Hollywood Studios made a quiet overhaul to their FastPass+ tiers in an effort to streamline things around this park in the coming months as we approach the Spring Break travel season. And though Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance continues to be available by boarding group only, it looks like another Star Wars addition is finally coming to FastPass+!

Tier 1 gets a new addition from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Though it has been almost half a year since it first opened, FastPass+ reservations are finally available for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run for guests planning visits on or after Feb. 19. As you might expect, this attraction is categorized under Tier 1, and guests wanting to reserve this experience in advance will want to do so as soon as they are able, as the first “wave” of FastPass+ reservations for this attraction were gone within minutes of being released!

Tier 1 is also getting a lot less crowded

Ever since the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Tier 1 has been very crowded, including almost every single ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including Alien Swirling Saucers, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Slinky Dog Dash, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and Toy Story Mania. However, under this new system Tier 1 is getting a lot less busy, with the following tier breakdown:

  • Tier 1: Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash.
  • Tier 2: Toy Story Mania!, Alien Swirling Saucers, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, Star Tours, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Disney Junior Dance Party!, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, MuppetVision 3D, Fantasmic! and Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage.

This new tiered system makes a lot more sense, and will hopefully lead to guests being able to experience a lot more at this park, especially if they are waiting for their boarding group to be called at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. And speaking of…

When will we see FastPass+ reservations come to Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Though it took roughly half a year for FastPass+ reservations to come to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, it seems very unlikely that we will see a similar timeframe for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Not only is this attraction still not running reliably, but this attraction also continues to be insanely popular, driving guests to the park in droves every single morning.

If we had to guess, we’d say it will be a year or more before we see any kind of FastPass+ integration for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, as the boarding pass system seems to be working well for now, and until demand dies down for this attraction, it would be ill-advised for Disney to introduce a StandBy/FastPass+ line, as waits would undoubtedly be 300 minutes plus as soon as the park opened.

However, though it might be a long time until we see FastPass+ at Disney’s hottest new attraction, it seems like the right time for FastPass+ to be introduced at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and we’re happy to see Tier 1 finally uncluttered.
