The 2 BIG Updates From Disneyland This Month (November 2019)

As the countdown to Disneyland’s January opening of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance draws near, there has been a lot of new and exciting news coming from the resort, including an exciting announcement about the future of Tomorrowland plus an intriguing new development that could point to the further growth of the Disneyland Resort in the near future…

A new DVC property could be coming soon to Disneyland Resort

It’s no secret that Disney Vacation Club is expanding at a rapid pace at Walt Disney World. However, according to a new report in the Los Angeles Times, Disney may be looking to grow its timeshare offerings with a brand new property at the Disneyland Resort in the near future.

Now that Disney’s plan to bring a luxury hotel to Disneyland has been dead for over a year (reportedly due to issues with the local government), the company is moving on to the next big thing, and has submitted plans this past week to build a 350-unit DVC property right next to the iconic Disneyland Hotel. The application filed with the city of Anaheim describes this new hotel as a 12-story, 280,000-square-foot property that will be built on land that is currently being used by backstage facilities.

Of course, this isn’t exactly a sure thing yet as this project will require a partnership with the City of Anaheim, and both Disney and the local government will have to come to terms before this new proposed hotel project gets the official green light, but hopefully these two groups can work together this time to bring more rooms for DVC Members to the Disneyland Resort in the near future!

New Tomorrowland entrance to be completed next year

Tomorrowland at Disneyland is getting a brand new entrance in 2020 as part of the larger Project Stardust park improvement project. This updated entrance will feature wider pathways to improve access for guests as well as Space Age-inspired spires that recall the past of Tomorrowland. Disney Imagineer Kim Irvine released the following statement about the project:

Tomorrowland has always represented a feeling of optimism. [Imagineer] John Hench originally designed the land with this notion of being wide open to innovative ideas and technology. When we started looking at the different Tomorrowland entrances through the years, both the 1955 and 1967 versions had a very optimistic appeal which resonated with us.”

Construction is now underway on this entrance, and though the concept art above gives guests a rough idea about what this new area will look like, there’s one funny detail that may catch some guests’ eye that you might be able to spy in this close up:

If you look way in the background of the image you can see the shadow of the long-defunct Rocket Rods attraction! We don’t expect this attraction to return ever, so just chalk this up to a funny mistake on Disney’s part.
