4 Refurbishments Coming Soon to Walt Disney World (September 2019)

Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.

This month’s refurbishment update includes a (possibly final) update on the future of Primeval Whirl at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a lengthy closing at Epcot, plus the reimagining of a classic hidden gem at one of Disney’s most popular resorts!

1. Primeval Whirl (Disney’s Animal Kingdom)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: Now – TBA

Several months ago on June 17, the Walt Disney World Resort released an advisory informing Guests that Primeval Whirl would be closed until further notice due to unspecified technical issues and unfortunately, we haven’t heard much about this attraction since then.

Though Disney has been keeping guests informed about the changing reopening targets for Primeval Whirl, Disney’s official attraction page for this ride has recently been updated with a “Temporarily Closed” notice. This is an important change, as this is the same status that the long-closed Stitch’s Great Escape has on its attraction page as well, and we’re pretty sure that attraction is not going to be opening back up ever again.. While it’s possible that this ride may reopen (some guests have reported seeing this attraction testing), its status change on the official website does not seem like a good sign.

2. Impressiones de France (Epcot)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: October 2 – January 2020

Beginning this week on October 2, the Palais du Cinéma (the theater that houses Impressions de France) will be closed for refurbishment as work begins on getting this space ready for the Beauty and the Beast Sing-a-long, which will play in addition to the French film, and is being created by Don Hahn, producer of the animated and live-action Beauty and the Beast film. This new addition will debut early next year.

3. Tri-Circle-D Ranch (Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: Now – Spring 2020

A completely redesigned Tri-Circle-D Ranch will be coming next year to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, which will offer a modern stable and updated outdoor spaces and facilities for “The Happiest Horses on Earth.” The new ranch will maintain the history and spirit of the original Tri-Circle-D, welcoming guests to explore exhibits of classic Disney equestrian artifacts, some of which date back to the 1950s. The current Tri-Circle-D Ranch is now closed, but this new, reimagined space is set to open next spring.

4. Blizzard Beach (the whole park)

Status: Confirmed

Dates: September 8, 2019 – January 4, 2019

Though the warm “hotumn” weather is still in full force in Central Florida, Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park is now closed for the season and will remain closed until after the holiday season while regular maintenance is performed. The park is expected to reopen (weather pending, of course) early next year in January.
