The 8 BIG Updates From Walt Disney World (and Beyond) This Week (January 24-30, 2022)

This week at Walt Disney World, box trucks are spotted at Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the Magic Kingdom prepares its biggest character cavalcade ever, plus new lighting lane offerings are added to the Genie+ lineup! 

Outside Walt Disney World, Universal confirms an opening target for Epic Universe and Busch Gardens announces an opening date for Iron Gwazi. 

1. Character experience lightning lane reservations now available with Genie+ 

Guests who purchase the $15 Genie+ add-on can now use lighting lanes at select character meet and greet locations, including the following:

  • Mickey at Town Square Theater in Magic Kingdom
  • Princess Tiana and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall in Magic Kingdom
  • Cinderella and a Visiting Princess at Princess Fairytale Hall in Magic Kingdom
  • Olaf at Celebrity Spotlight in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

2. Box truck that will take guests to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge from Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser spied

As part of the immersive experience that awaits guests at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests will be able to take special “transports” that will bring guests between the two lands. And the folks at Blog Mickey have spied what the outside of these transports will look like. You can see pictures here of the white box trucks that will be bringing guests back and forth from this land. 

3. Lighting Lane perks for Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser revealed

And speaking of Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Blog Mickey is also reporting that guests of this hotel will receive complimentary Lightning Lane access to both Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run during their stay. 

4. Return date announced for Festival of Fantasy parade

The Festival of Fantasy parade at the Magic Kingdom is set to return after two years on March 9. After this date the parade will be performed daily at the Magic Kingdom. 

5. Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade debuts February 11

The new Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade will debut at the Magic Kingdom on February 11 and will feature over 30 Disney and Pixar characters, including Moana, Miguel from “Coco,” Clarabelle Cow, Baloo and King Louie, Mulan, Elena, José Carioca and Panchito of The Three Caballeros, Stitch, and many more.

6.Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire returns February 25 with special 50th anniversary enhancements

Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire will be returning to the Magic Kingdom February 25. The show will still incorporate favorite scenes inspired by Frozen,Tangled, and The Princess and the Frog and will also include a new opening and a new finale with Mickey Mouse and all his friends in their sparkling, EARidescent fashions.

7. Universal’s Epic Universe gets a 2025 opening target

Work is going full steam ahead on Universal’s Epic Universe, with NBCUniversal President confirming this week that the new park is set to open by 2025. 

8. Iron Gwazi sets opening date 

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay has announced that it will officially open Iron Gwazi on March 11, 2022. Like with Icebreaker at Seaworld Orlando, Pass Members will be able to sign up for early preview rides.
