Though Walt Disney World’s four theme parks reopened nearly a year ago, the resort has yet to fully reopen, as certain attractions, restaurants, and hotels have remained closed due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, it looks like this summer will bring several high-profile reopenings to the resort, including a fan favorite show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
1. A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King (Mid- May 2021)
One of the most anticipated reopenings at Walt Disney World is “A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King” which is a modified version of the fan favorite show that is set to debut later this month at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.Cast Members are now in rehearsal for this adjusted show, which will include updates on stage and backstage, including changes to choreography to allow for appropriate physical distancing. In addition, seating will be limited and staggered throughout the theater (similar to the set up at For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-a-Long), and parties will all be seated individually to minimize contact with others.
2. Disney’s Beach Club Resort (May 30 2021)
After being closed for over a year, Disney’s Beach Club recently got a quick courtyard refurbishment with new greenery and seating areas to get ready for the resort’s reopening in just a few weeks on May 30, 2021.
3. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge (June 6 2021)
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will be officially reopening to guests early next month on June 6. Up until now, only the resort’s Boulder Ridge Villas and Copper Creek Villas have been open for DVC guests. Like several other resorts, Disney used the lengthy closure of this resort to refresh the look of this location’s guestrooms, which now feature a more modern look, which you can check out here.
4. Disney’s BoardWalk Inn (July 2 2021)
One of the most recent reopening announcements was Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, which will be opening to guests later this on July 2, 2021. And the good news is that on select dates, guests who book this resort can take advantage of a special summer discount!
5. Disney’s Polynesian Resort (July 2021)
Right now Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is going through a major refurbishment that will bring Moana-themed rooms to the resort as well as a newly-refreshed monorail station. And while work is progressing quickly on this massive project, it will be some time before Disney is ready to reopen this resort to non-DVC guests, with the resort currently targeting a late July 2021 reopening date.
