Once again, all eyes are on Disney Springs this week, as all Disney-owned Disney Springs locations, including World of Disney, Co-Op Marketplace, D-Luxe Burger, The Ganachery and more will be reopening this Wednesday, May 27, 2020. However, though this will bring Disney Springs more or less up to a full opening, there are several locations at this shopping and dining district that are still closed indefinitely:
1. Rainforest Cafe
Though Landry’s-owned T-REX Cafe is currently open for business, across the resort the Rainforest Cafe has still not reopened. Though no reason was given for this restaurant staying shuttered, owner Landry’s may be having issues finding adequate staff after suspending all of its employees without pay back in March, or could be trying to cut costs as the restaurant company is still going through extreme financial hardship. However, whatever the reason, this location does not have a reopening target date on the Disney Springs website, and remains shuttered indefinitely for now.
2. Drawn to Life – Cirque du Soleil
Though it was set to debut back in March, it has been officially announced that Cirque Du Soleil has suspended and postponed the Drawn to Life show at Disney Springs indefinitely. Cirque du Soleil has said that ticket holders will be refunded at their point of purchase for this show, and have not offered a date for a potentially postponed debut. And while restrictions are still in pace for mass, indoor gatherings, we do not anticipate that this show will be able to debut in 2020, if at all.
3. House of Blues Restaurant and Bar
Right across from Cirque du Soleil, another performing arts venue, the House of Blues, also remains shuttered. However, in addition to the performance area being closed, it looks like the attached shop and restaurant area are also shuttered for the foreseeable future as there are no hours listed for either on the Disney Springs website.
4. AMC Dine-in Disney Springs 24 Theater
One of the big anchors of the Disney Springs shopping and entertainment district is the AMC Dine-in Disney Springs 24, which draws thousands of guests to sold out shows every weekend. However, due to state restrictions, this theater, along with all others across the state are not able to open due to the current guideleines .
And though this location does very well at Disney Springs, parent company AMC may be in trouble, as S&P Global has said that the company may run out of money by mid-summer, which could be an issue if movie theaters don’t reopen by June. And unfortunately that has led to the theater company’s credit rating, being downgraded substantially to “Default imminent, with little prospect for recovery”.
Unfortunately, this puts the future of the AMC Dine-in Disney Springs 24 Theater in doubt when it comes to reopening, as we may be looking at mass theater closures across the country as soon as this summer, and this location could be among those that never reopen after this pandemic
As always, while this situation is evolving, all travelers should check out the CDC’s official site here, which has information on the virus and how to prevent its spread.
