Key Information
1994 was something of a banner year for roller coasters in the UK, with The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Nemesis at Alton Towers both opening to huge fanfare. Drayton Manor also got in on the act, with the debut of Shockwave, Europe’s first and only stand-up roller coaster and the only ride of its kind to feature a zero-g roll in the world.
Guests perch on a bicycle-style seat in a standing position on Shockwave’s trains, hitting a top speed of 53 miles per hour during the ride. The Intamin-design coaster’s circuit features a 80-feet first drop, a vertical loop, the unique zero-g roll and two corkscrews.
