While Disney California Adventure came in for heavy criticism following its 2001 debut, the opening of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel proved to be the one silver lining for the Disneyland Resort. Designed to resemble classic National Park Service lodges such as Yosemite's Ahwahnee Hotel, it boasts an impressive reception hall that is based on San Francisco's Swedenborgian Church. Located within walking distance of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, the hotel boasts several beautifully-designed pools and a full service spa. Its flagship restaurant is the Napa Rose, an Arts and Crafts-themed location that has become one of the resort's most popular eateries, where guests can also have breakfast with Disney characters including princesses.
