Dinosaur

As we now know, Dinoland USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has an extinction date on the horizon. This controversial land will see its end as Disney makes way for a new Tropical Americas themed area. This new land is a welcome change for most. However, it means the loss of Animal Kingdom’s original E-ticket attraction: Dinosaur

In concept art for the Tropical Americas land, we have seen the idea that Indiana Jones would replace Dinosaur.  It would not be hard to copy much of the California attraction. This would be far from the first time we have seen almost identical copies of attractions at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. However, should Dinosaur become another Disneyland clone or are there other new and unique concepts that would be a better fit?

Does Indy Belongs In Animal Kingdom?

Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland is renowned for its immersive storytelling, thrilling action sequences, and state-of-the-art effects. It remains one of the most popular attractions at the park.  If Disney can replicate this successful formula to replace Dinosaur, it could offer guests an exciting and memorable experience that aligns with the Animal Kingdom's themes of adventure and exploration. Not to mention, Dinosaur utilizes the same ride vehicles and mechanics as Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland.

Additionally, the Indiana Jones lore and story allow for the attraction to take place anywhere in the world. While one does not immediately think of Indy when thinking of the Tropical Americas, it is possible to set an Indiana Jones story within this area. The flexibility of the lore makes Indiana Jones a decent contender for replacing the prehistoric attraction.

Animal Kingdom Deserves Something NEW

While Indiana Jones could provide a new story that would fit within the land, there is a wealth of other options and IP that would make for a great attraction. For example, The Emperor’s New Groove is a cult favorite that is set within the appropriate landscape.

Imagine entering the world of Emperor Kuzco and his friends as you embark on a wild journey through the jungles of Peru, filled with humor, educational moments, and unexpected twists and turns. By creating a unique attraction Disney Imagineers could showcase the rich culture, biodiversity, and natural wonders of the region in a way that is both educational and entertaining. Best of all, it would bring to life an attraction that cannot be found anywhere else.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of the most unique theme parks in the world. Redesigning Dinosaur into a unique attraction allows Animal Kingdom to offer something distinct from the other Disney parks. Instead of replicating an existing ride, the park can continue to differentiate itself by introducing an entirely new concept that showcases its own unique identity and mission of exploration and conservation. This is even more important now that the California resort may be getting its own AVATAR-themed land.

Whether replaced by Indiana Jones or another concept or IP, Dinosaur will see its extinction soon. Fans of the attraction, like this writer, are incredibly sad to see it go. However, whatever idea Disney decides to go with, we can hope they will maintain the adventure, humor, and wild thrills that Dinosaur has provided for guests over its almost 30 years. Hopefully, the attraction will never fully rest in pieces.
